    WINNIPEG--The ICE Futures canola market was mixen Friday, after trading to both sides of unchanged in choppy activity in reaction to conflicting outside influences. Concerns over a new Covid-19 variant sparked sharp losses in crude oil and equity markets Friday, with resulting weakness in the Chicago Board of Trade soy complex spilling into the canola market as well. However, the Canadian dollar was also down sharply on the day, which helped temper the declines.

After being closed for Thanksgiving the U.S. futures markets resume trading Friday for an abbreviated session, with the close at 1:05 p.m. ET. However, ICE canola remains with its regular schedule.

  • ICE Canada Weekly Outlook: Market Strong But Choppy

    WINNIPEG--Nearby ICE Futures canola contracts climbed to fresh highs during the week ended Nov. 24, while the deferred months moved lower. The new crop November 2022 contract had overshot to the upside and was due for a correction, said Keith Ferley, of RBC Dominion Securities in Winnipeg. He added that any weakness would likely be met by commercial buying.

    WINNIPEG, Manitoba-- The ICE Futures canola market was mixed at Wednesday's close, setting fresh highs in the front months and moving lower in the more deferred positions. U.S. markets will be closed Thursday for Thanksgiving, and positioning ahead of the holiday was a feature. Gains in Chicago Board of Trade soyoil futures provided some spillover support for canola, but the other U.S. grains and oilseeds were all weaker.

    The ICE Futures canola market was weaker at midday Wednesday, retreating from earlier gains as traders squared positions ahead of the U.S. Soyoil futures at the Chicago Board of Trade were still stronger at midday, but soybeans, corn and wheat futures were all lower. "We're just following the break in the U.S.," said a Winnipeg-based trader.

  • ICE Canada Morning Comment: Canola Prices At or Near New Highs

    Intercontinental Exchange canola futures continued higher from overnight gains Wednesday morning, with contracts at or near new highs. Support came from Chicago soyoil, European rapeseed and Malaysian palm oil. Tight canola supplies, a lackluster harvest and price rationing also bolstered canola prices.
