Dow up more than 800 points on hopes coronavirus outbreak near peak

U.S. stocks opened higher Monday, with analysts attributing support to a fall in the death rate from the COVID-19 pandemic in Europe and hopes that the toll in the U.S. may be nearing its peak. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 857 points, or 4.1%, while the S&P 500 advanced 96 points, or 3.8%, to 2,584. The Nasdaq Composite advanced 259 points, or 3.5%, to 7,643.
